This was a fun project that we did for a tech company down in Deep Ellum. They were wanting a help desk to meet with customers who come in for support.
After a few different design ideas we came up with this raw steel countertop and cedar combination. It turned out great and is a wonderful addition to their office.
The cold rolled steel waterfall countertop is one of the main focal points for the bar area. Designing the bar top so that it could support the weight of the steel countertop and also be welded tougher was a fun challenge.
I decided to build it in pieces and then bring it to their office and assemble the pieces… like a big lego set. One of the reason I split it up was I didn’t want welding going on inside their office unless it was absolutely necessary.
I separated the countertop and frame into one section and then the cabinets, doors, and drawers into another section.
I also had to consider the weight of the pieces since the install for this was on a second floor with no elevators… so I had to build it in a way that wouldn’t be too heavy to carry up the stairs.
When lifting heavy things having lots of people around to help makes easy work of it. The guys from the tech company helped us carry the bar/countertop area up the stairs which was a great help.
It was a pretty easy install… once everything was built in the shop, loaded in a trailer, driven twenty miles away to their office, unloaded from a narrow one way street into the first floor of the office, rolled on dollies to the stairs, and then carried up the stairs.. once all that was done it was an easy install.
